Currently, all of our oils come from olives grown in Italy. We have plans to bring oils from other parts of the world to Lustful Olive, so check back in with us for the opportunity to experience olives across the Mediterranean.
Are all of your olive oils extra virgin?
Technically, no. To be classified as “extra virgin,” olive oils cannot have any flavors. It must be pure olive oil, hence the “virgin” name. However, we never use any chemicals or heating elements when creating our oils, bringing you the absolute highest grade of olive oil you can find, although it is not “extra virgin” by the strict definition of the name.

EVOO stands for extra virgin olive oil. The “Extra” in EVOO represents the absolute highest grade for olive oil. It has less than 0.8% free fatty acids compared to just “virgin” olive oil, which can contain as much as 2%. Extra virgin olive oil is the most refined in flavor and contains the highest amount of antioxidants and is made solely by mechanical processes rather than by using heating or chemicals like many other oils.

Oils that are cold-pressed are made without heat or chemicals, meaning that the process is solely mechanical. Olive oil is traditionally created by separating the water from the crushed olives by way of a centrifuge. All of our oils are produced this way, preserving aromas and natural flavors.
Can I cook with it?
Yes! In fact, it’s actually healthier to cook with than oils like canola and vegetable due to the harmful by-products that are created when those are heated. Olive oil does have a lower smoke point, but that shouldn’t scare you off: lower smoke points of an oil do not correlate to the oil’s performance when heated.
When should I not cook with olive oil?
Avoid using olive oil when cooking over high heat. Olive oil has a lower smoke point compared to most oils. The flavor compounds in olive oil are delicate and will evaporate when its smoke point is reached (around 374-405 fahrenheit).
